Foaming of a Plastic with an Intensive Inline Mixer
The polyol and catalyst are fed into the mixer via external pumps. Just before the mixer, more than 10% compressed air is continuously added through an adapter. In the Intensive Inline Mixer DLM/S, the components are homogeneously mixed. Due to the special design of the mixing elements on the rotor and stator, the air is efficiently, evenly, and finely dispersed into the continuous phase.
Thanks to a magnetic coupling, the mixer design is very compact and low-wear. The process takes place in the low-pressure range, protecting the high-pressure pump, which sprays the final product, from excessive cavitation. Subsequently, a pressure of 150 - 170 bar is generated, as required for the spraying process. The isocyanate is only added in the nozzle head.
Advantages
- Protects the pump from cavitation and extends its service life.
- The dynamic mixer allows for a higher gas incorporation into the product.
- Maximum flexibility for customers when switching formulations by individually stopping or starting each dosing stream.
- Efficient mixing with an absolutely homogeneous result within seconds.
- Minimized mixing volume saves product during formulation changes or throughput adjustments.
Comparable Applications with a Similar Process and the Same Mixer
- Aeration of adhesives
- Aeration of natural and synthetic latex
